If your existing tile is structurally sound, firmly bonded, and acceptable, it can remain. However, resurfacing is the most cost-effective time to replace it because the pool is already drained and accessible. New tile refreshes appearance, protects the bond beam, and eliminates calcium buildup behind aging grout.
Post-plaster care is the 7 to 14 day period immediately after a new surface is applied, while it cures and releases calcium dust. Daily brushing removes dust that would otherwise embed and discolor the surface, and water chemistry must be carefully monitored to prevent etching, staining, or scaling during this vulnerable window.
Fall from October through November and spring from March through April are the preferred windows. Moderate temperatures let plaster cure at an even rate, reducing the risk of rapid drying, cracking, or discoloration.
