Tucson Pool Construction Engineered for Desert Conditions
Southern Arizona’s climate separates pools that last from pools that fail within their first decade. Relentless UV exposure, caliche-dense soils, monsoon deluges, and winter freeze cycles demand a pool builder that builds for this environment from the ground up. Every Sorce pool begins with a site-specific assessment of your property’s soil composition, drainage patterns, sun exposure, and grading. We build exclusively for the conditions outside your door.

What We Build
Custom Pools, Spas, and Water Features Built as Architecture
Every pool starts as a site-specific design shaped by your property’s grade, orientation, view lines, and existing architecture. We design pools that function as intentional extensions of your home, engineered for how you actually use your outdoor space.

Our Process
How We Design and Build Your Tucson Pool
Site Consultation and Property Assessment
We walk your property, assess soil conditions, document sun exposure and drainage patterns, review HOA guidelines if applicable, and discuss your vision, priorities, and budget. This complimentary consultation establishes the foundation for an accurate design and honest project scope.
Custom Design and 3D Visualization
Your pool is designed in full 3D, with shape, depth, features, decking, landscape integration, and lighting all visualized before a shovel touches dirt. We engineer the structural plan based on your lot’s actual soil conditions. Revisions are part of the process until you are confident in every detail.
Permitting and HOA Coordination
We handle all Pima County and City of Tucson permits, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and grading approvals. For communities that require architectural review, we prepare and submit HOA packages on your behalf. Most permit packages are approved within 2 to 3 weeks.
Excavation, Shell Construction, and Systems
Excavation begins with caliche assessment and rock removal specific to Southern Arizona soils. The gunite shell is shot to engineered thickness, steel reinforced, and cured on a calibrated timeline. All plumbing, gas lines, electrical, equipment pads, filtration, and automation are installed during the build.
Finish, Fill, and Final Walkthrough
Interior finish application, coping installation, deck completion, and equipment commissioning are completed on schedule. We fill the pool, balance chemistry, program automation, and walk you through every system. Your project manager remains available for any question in the first season.

The Measurable Benefits of Professional Pool Construction in Tucson
Increased Property Value and Resale Appeal
A well-designed pool with quality finishes and integrated landscaping can increase home value by 5 to 8 percent and significantly reduce time on market in Southern Arizona’s competitive real estate market.
Year-Round Outdoor Living
Tucson’s climate supports pool use 9 to 10 months of the year. With a heat pump or gas heater your season runs from early March through late November. Add a heated spa and your outdoor living calendar stretches across all 12 months.
Energy Efficiency With Modern Technology
Variable-speed pumps reduce energy consumption by up to 80 percent, saltwater chlorination lowers chemical costs, and LED lighting draws a fraction of the power of halogen. Smart automation keeps operating costs well below industry averages.
Complete Backyard Integration
When your pool builder also handles hardscape, landscape, shade structures, lighting, and outdoor kitchens, drainage routes connect and materials match. Your entire backyard is designed and built as a single project, not a patchwork of separate contracts.
Reduced Long-Term Maintenance
PebbleTec and quartz finishes resist staining and etching far longer than standard plaster, in-floor cleaning systems reduce manual vacuuming, and properly plumbed and sloped lines prevent recurring repairs. Building right the first time saves thousands over the life of your pool.
Engineered for the Sonoran Desert
Caliche Soil and Excavation Engineering
Tucson’s caliche hardpan sits anywhere from 6 inches to 6 feet below grade, and it changes how your pool is excavated and supported. We conduct soil analysis before design begins, adjusting excavation plans, shell reinforcement, and drainage routing to match your lot’s actual subsurface conditions rather than a generic template.
UV and Thermal Resistance
With summer surface temperatures exceeding 150 degrees on exposed decking, every material we specify is rated for Tucson’s thermal extremes. PebbleTec interior finishes, travertine or cool-deck coping, UV-stable tile, and heat-resistant equipment enclosures are standard on every build. We select materials that look clean in year 10, not just year one.
Monsoon-Ready Drainage
Tucson averages 6 or more inches of rain between July and September, delivered in sudden, intense downpours. Every pool we construct includes an engineered drainage plan that routes storm water away from the pool shell, prevents deck flooding, and protects surrounding hardscape and landscape from erosion.
Freeze Protection and Winterization
Tucson sees 15 to 20 nights below freezing each winter. Our plumbing layouts include freeze-protection provisions with proper line slopes and accessible drain points. Expansion joints, coping, and tile lines are specified for thermal cycling across a 100-degree-plus annual temperature range.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Pool Construction in Tucson
How much does pool construction cost in Tucson?
Tucson pool construction ranges from $55,000 to $80,000 for standard custom builds, $80,000 to $120,000 for mid-range projects with spas and water features, and $120,000 to $200,000 or more for premium resort-style pools with full backyard integration. Every Sorce project begins with a complimentary consultation where we establish scope and provide a detailed estimate based on your property and priorities.
How long does it take to build a pool in Tucson?
Most comprehensive pool builds run 10 to 16 weeks from design approval through final walkthrough, depending on project scope and permitting timelines. Pool-only projects without significant landscape work can be completed in 8 to 10 weeks. We provide a detailed milestone schedule at design approval and hold ourselves to it.
What type of pool construction does Sorce use?
All Sorce pools are built with gunite (shotcrete), a hand-shaped reinforced concrete method that allows unlimited design flexibility and unmatched structural durability. Unlike fiberglass shells or vinyl liners, gunite pools are custom-formed to your exact specifications and can accommodate any shape, depth, or feature your property demands.
What pool finishes work best in Tucson’s climate?
PebbleTec, PebbleSheen, and QuartzScapes are the most popular and durable options for Tucson pools. These aggregate finishes resist UV degradation, chemical etching, and staining far longer than standard white plaster. We help you select the finish that matches your aesthetic preferences and maintenance expectations.
Do you handle permits for pool construction in Tucson?
Yes. We manage all Pima County and City of Tucson permits, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and grading approvals. For HOA-governed communities, we prepare and submit architectural review packages on your behalf. Most permits are approved within 2 to 3 weeks.
How does caliche affect pool construction in Tucson?
Caliche is a calcium carbonate hardpan common throughout Tucson that significantly impacts excavation. It can sit anywhere from 6 inches to 6 feet below grade and often requires specialized equipment to remove. We conduct soil testing before design begins and adjust excavation plans, structural reinforcement, and budgets accordingly.
Can you build the pool and the entire backyard together?
Absolutely. Our team builds pools, hardscape, pergolas, ramadas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, landscape, lighting, and irrigation as one integrated project. Most of our clients opt for a complete backyard build because it saves time, reduces cost, and ensures every element works together.
What is the best time of year to start pool construction in Tucson?
Pool construction in Tucson can proceed year-round, though fall and early spring are the most popular start windows. Beginning in October or November allows construction to progress through the mild winter months, with your pool ready for the first warm days of March or April.
